The Grand Finale

Life offers lessons in all that we do. Last night one of my best friends and I had an opportunity to partake in an exclusive farewell musical tour event for one of our favorite bands. It was unique due to the protocols that were put in place to honor the governor's mandate for COVID. The facility restricted the occupancy, yet, the energy was great. The event was amazing!

Amidst all that occurred one thing really stuck out. My best friend and I went backstage to congratulate the lead singer (a mutual friend) and to our surprise he was furious. To add context the speaker system among other facility equipment were down. At various points of the event the lead singer had to perform among the crowd. ( I thought it was great.) Turns out the singer (Chris) strongly disagreed. The band ran into multiple issues throughout the night as well as in their performance. They did an exceptional job of playing through it. After his set Chris paced back and forth ranting about the infuriating circumstances. Being a silver lining kind of guy I didn't initially grasp the entirety of his frustrations. In my mind I was thinking of how they were able to take the situation and crush it while others may have thrown in the towel.

The power in that moment was in the fact that this final experience was 30 years in the making. Chris forged his path on his own terms. His band, has topped charts and he has toured all over the world. Yet, Chris was hyper-focused on the ineptitude of the venue. It did not allow Chris to give the type of performance he and his fans were accustomed to. In his mind all of the blood, sweat, tears and sacrifices should have culminated into this epic event. I can completely empathize. All of the energy dedicated to your life's work should have a sort of Grand Finale. Chris's desire was to have a much more prolific climax. This opened my eyes to some simple facts about life. One of which stood out above the rest is the fact that life can absolutely be anti-climatic. As much as we desire this idea of control and ultimate vision of our life, we are all at the mercy of chance and circumstances. There is rarely perfection in our quest for clarity and success. Each fleeting ideal situation is our gift. Cherish them. . My key take away and message for all is to follow your dreams, love hard, take risks, travel often, and live in the moment.
